Enrollment ID (EID) is a 28-digit unique identification number assigned to each Aadhaar applicant. It can be used for various purposes, such as checking the status of your Aadhaar application, retrieving a lost or forgotten Aadhaar number, verifying your identity, and completing KYC procedures. Also, it can be quoted in your income tax return in place of the Aadhaar number (if not allotted yet).

On a separate note, Aadhaar is getting increasingly important in India because soon you will need it even for passport applications. You can read more about this in this article .

What is Enrollment ID in Aadhaar?

The Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit number given to each citizen of India. It is used to identify people by their unique biometric details. To get an Aadhaar number, you need to go to an Aadhaar Enrollment Center, fill out a form and provide your biometric data.

When you apply for an Aadhaar number, you will also be assigned an enrollment ID (EID), which is a 28-digit number. The first 14 digits are randomly assigned, while the next 14 digits show the date and time of your Aadhaar enrollment. You will be given an acknowledgement slip with your EID on it. Here is an example of what an Aadhaar enrolment ID looks like: 1234/54321/98765 08/09/2022 07:44:23

What are the benefits of knowing your Aadhaar enrolment ID?

The enrolment ID is very useful when you need to access certain facilities or services. Here are some ways you can use the enrolment ID in Aadhaar:

  • Check the status of your Aadhaar application online
  • Retrieve a lost or forgotten Aadhaar number
  • Change your personal information (like your name or date of birth) on the Aadhaar database
  • Verify your identity when you use government or other services, like opening a bank account, applying for a subsidy, or getting a passport
  • Complete KYC procedures when getting financial services that require customer verification

You can also use your Aadhaar enrollment ID in place of your Aadhaar number when filing your income tax return (if you haven't been given an Aadhaar number yet).
