  • Visit https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home and under the 'Quick Links' section, select ‘Instant e-PAN’
  • Select ‘Get New e-PAN’
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha code
  • Confirm that you meet all the prerequisites
  • Select 'Generate Aadhaar OTP'
  • Approve the verification of your Aadhaar from UIDAI
  • Enter the Aadhaar OTP you would have received on your registered mobile number and then select 'Validate Aadhaar OTP and Continue'
  • Verify your details and grant your consent to the terms and conditions
  • Select 'Submit PAN Request'
  • You will be issued an acknowledgement number
  • You can download your e-PAN allotment by going to the e-PAN page and selecting check Status/Download PAN

The Income Tax department of India has entrusted UTIITSL to manage the process of PAN application and delivery of the physical PAN card to the applicant. Follow these steps to apply for a PAN card from UTIITSL.

Steps to apply for a PAN card from UTIITSL

  • Visit https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN/#one
  • Select PAN Card for Indian Citizen/NRI after scrolling down
  • Apply for New PAN Card (Form 49A)
  • Select Digital mode
  • Choose Aadhaar based e-KYC
  • Pick eSign Mode (application will be signed using Aadhaar based eSignature)
  • Choose between virtual e-PAN or e-PAN along with a physical PAN card
  • Fill in the details to get an acknowledgement receipt

  • Go to the NSDL TIN website: https://www.tin-nsdl.com/
  • Under quick links, select ‘Apply for PAN online’
  • Read the guidelines, instructions and dos and don’ts
  • Select ‘Apply’
  • Fill in your personal details
  • Enter the captcha
  • Select Submit
  • You will receive an acknowledgement with a 15-digit number
  • Select 'Continue with PAN Application Form'
  • Fill in more personal details
  • Choose how you want to submit the documents. You may:
  • Submit application documents physically
  • Submit digitally through a digital signature
  • Submit digitally through e-sign
  • Identify the documents and submit KYC verification documents for identity, address, and date of birth proof
  • Confirm by ticking on the declaration agreement tick-box. Review your entered details and submit the form
  • Select the Proceed button. This will direct you to the payment options. You can pay using the Demand Draft (DD) or make an online payment using the payment gateway
  • If you choose Demand Draft or DD, you will have to make a DD before you begin the application process, as you have to provide the DD number, date of issue, amount, and the name of the bank from where DD is generated on the portal
  • If you opt for a payment gateway, you can pay through Net Banking, Debit or Credit Cards
  • Select 'I agree to terms of service' and proceed to pay. The PAN application fees vary based on whether you are sending documents separately to Protean eGov Technologies Limited or uploading them online
  • If you pay using your credit card, debit card, or net banking, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt and payment receipt. Print the acknowledgement receipt
  • Attach two recent photographs along with the acknowledgement receipt. Do not staple or clip the photos. Sign across the image you attach on the left side of the receipt. Do not sign across the image on the right. Your signature should be within the box provided. If you use your left thumb impression, ensure that it is attested by a gazetted officer or a notary
  • After payment is confirmed, send the supporting documents via post or courier to Protean eGov Technologies Limited

How to apply online for a PAN card free of cost?

Worried about costs? Applying for a PAN card online is free if you only need it in a  PDF format. However, you will be charged if you apply for a physical PAN card.

Charges for physical printed PAN card

There are applicable charges for making a new PAN card application. You will have to pay ₹93 plus Goods and Services Tax (GST) if you have entered a communication address within India. If you have entered a communication address outside of India, the charges are ₹864 plus GST.

The payment of the application fee can be made through credit or debit card, demand draft, or net banking.
