Summary

What’s Inside

In India, there are many types of taxes, such as CGST, SGST, and IGST, under the goods and services tax (GST) regime. As an Indian citizen, you must pay the challans for these taxes if your tax liability exceeds your input tax credit.

For instance, merchants must pay the GST challan on their customers' sales tax. Failing to pay this tax can get you a fine of up to ₹5,000.

Now there are many ways to pay the GST challan. But making the GST payment challan online is the most convenient.

Different Categories of TaxPayers in India

There can be many types of taxpayers. So, it is crucial to understand which category you belong to before making the GST challan payment online.

  • Regular Taxpayer: The mandatory GST payment challan is the PMT 06 challan for a regular taxpayer. Such taxpayers will have to file the GSTR-3B form.
  • Quarterly Taxpayer: These taxpayers fall under the Quarterly Returns Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme of GST.
  • Nil GST Returns Taxpayer: If taxpayers have zero tax payable due to their purchases equalling or exceeding their sales, they need to file the GSTR-3B form. However, there is no requirement for the GST payment challan for that tax period.
  • Composition Taxable People: The composition scheme includes taxpayers with a turnover below Rs. 1.5 crore. For people residing in Himachal Pradesh and North-Eastern regions, the amount is Rs.75 lakh. These types of taxpayers need to fill out the GST challan CM-08 to pay their taxes.
